At 8:00 PM, EST, PodasterWhosWho.com released a brand new service where podcasters can review and rate other podcasters. Anybody visiting the PodcasterWhosWho.com web page of any member can add their opinion of the podcast as well as provide a rating from 1 to 5 (with 5 being the best).
It’s pretty easy too. Reviewers simply need to log into their PodcasterWhosWho.com web page, select any podcaster they enjoy, select a rating and finally type in their review. The reviewed podcaster simply gets an email asking him/her to log in and accept or delete the review. Any accepted reviews automatically show up on their member page.
Now, it does not stop there, because starting in the middle of September 2007, we will be displaying a listing of the highest rated podcasters. The podcasters with the highest ratings will appear first, getting more links and downloads to their podcast. How does this rating system work, you ask? It’s simple, but has four steps:
The number of reviews you receive for your podcaster
The podcasters with the highest rating score (the total of the 1 to 5 rating system)
The number of podcasts you review
The most recent reviews
That’s it. So, in other words, your highest score along with the highest AMOUNT of reviews, coupled with reviews that were submitted recently will have the highest ratings.
So, it makes sense to add your PodcasterWhosWho.com page to your web site, blog, and Myspace page, along with any other place where you get traffic.
We are also developing an API to provide you the benefit of listing your reviews on your web site and blog. We are also preparing an audio promo to tell people to review you on PodcasterWhosWho.com.
That’s it for now. You can always go onto the PodcasterWhosWho.com Google Group and ask people to review you as well or if you have questions.
I had a conversion with Rebecca White, host of Heal Yourself Talk Radio, who signed up for PodcasterWhosWho.com, but did not visit the site in a while. She was surprised to find the Podcast Page Maker, a utility which I wrote that allows podcasters to give their podcasts to any web site. It opens a little section of anybody’s web page and displays links to their podcast, a GREAT marketing tool for any podcaster.
So, she surprised me and told me that the Podcast Page Maker would be on her web site in 10 minutes. We spoke on the phone for 15 minutes. So, by the time we hung up, it was there on http://www.healyourselftalk.com/. So, Rebecca, thanks for keeping your word

I have to say that the first online podcamp was a huge success and I am glad to have been a co-organizer of it. Co-Organizer Ava from AvaHosting.Biz and I worked very hard the week before training speakers, setting up the room, and implementing our final marketing strategies.
We had over 100 people come into the room the entire day with the room peaking at 40 people in the afternoon.
We had over 11 speakers including myself on topics from Dr. Kathleen P. King’s Podcasting on a Budget for Everyone to John Ciampa’s Web 2.0 & A Look At How To Be Successful By using Emerging Trends to Create Wealth Online All While Loving What You Do to Ralph Mucci’s How to get noticed with your Podcast to Radio DJ Lisa Tolliver’s The Power of Podcasting. The last speaker Fred G.Castaneda, had the most powerful session of all titled How to Avoid Burnout & Prevent Podfading.
My two sessions were How To Upgrade Your Podcast to a Podcast Network and The Power of the RSS Feed and using it to get more subscribers.
The evening ended with the traditional live entertainment that most podcamps have. Yes, you may have guessed it from the above photo of me that I jammed out on the tenor saxophone to the remaining crowd at 9:50 PM. I played brand new jazz fusion that I wrote and recorded at 5:00 AM that day. I just thought we should have live entertainment as well even as an online podcamp.
We would like to thank all of the great podcasters and bloggers for coming to Podcamp City Online as well as the speakers. You all made it a very fun and memorable day.

I have some good news for you Twitter fans out there. Now, if you log into your PodcasterWhosWho.com (PWW) web page and enter your Twitter ID, your latest Twitter comment will automatically show up on your PodcasterWhosWho.com member page.
How are we making this happen? We are using the Twitter API to interface with your Twitter page. This is a big step for PodcasterWhosWho.com members who are nuts about Twitter.
For those of you who do not know about Twitter, it is a simple social networking tool which allows you to enter comments of up to 140 characters. It seems that the social networking world has embraced it and meshed it with the Web 2.0 movement.
In addition to your latest comment showing up, we have a web page of just links to podcasters’ Twitter pages who are members of PWW. If you have your Twitter ID entered into your PWW member page and would not like it to show up on your PWW page, then simply log in and remove it.

Of course, we have to report our adventures of a day at podcamp. The fun from yesterday may encourage me to attend other podcamps including Philly and Toronto.
The sessions on podcast promotion and monetizing your podcasts from Jason Van Orden’s and Lessa Barnes were enough to encourage me to start podcasting on a regular basis again with my podcasts called News For Web Designers, Fresh Music Series, and the Save Your Gasoline podcasts (I have spent a lot of time building web sites for my clients lately that podcasting had to take a sideline).
In Promoting Your Podcast, Jason Van Orden reiterated his observation that updating your podcast once per month is enough, contrary to what most of us think that it is necessary to update your blog once per week. That little piece of advice from Jason puts a lot of us a ease and takes the pressure off. I assume that updating your blog and podcast as often as possible is a key strategy for traffic and subscribers, but if he said once per month is sufficient, so be it.
Lessa’s Monetizing Your Podcast session was pretty exciting, mainly because she seems more like a motivational speaker. Every time someone mentioned an accomplishment, she summoned the entire room to applaud. I think Leesa’s single statement that she makes a six-figure yearly income from podcasting probably got everybody thinking. Lessa’s income in podcasting is from her podcast consulting, or what she calls the indirect way of earning podcast income.
For those of you who attended my own seminar on increasing traffic to your web site through your RSS feed, thanks for coming into the Central Park room at 1:00 PM. Also, thanks for the compliments I received about new ideas to utilize your RSS feed to get more traffic/subscribers to your podcast. I hope I reached some of you with my principles as well. Eric Skiff from ClipMarks lent me his projector which made it possible to show my powerpoint presentation. My only regret about conducting my session was that, unfortunately, we only had 45 minutes to present our material. If I had more time, I was going to have a couple of interactive exercises like giving everybody 1 minute to network with other podcasters in the room.
For those of you who were not able to make my session, let me tell you that the biggest principle of using your RSS feed is the fact that you can give your RSS feed to 100 web sites, for example, and when you update your podcast from your blog, your RSS feed will update your podcast on all 100 web sites. Using your RSS feed this way will save you time and effort contacting 100 webmasters. I guarantee that.
The people who I hung out with throughout the day also made the day for me as well. I am not going to mention individual people for fear of leaving anyone out, but you know who you are.
The night at Slate was fun as well and the food was great, but any food is good when you don’t eat for the entire day. I found out at 8:43 PM that my next train back to Long Island was at 9:20 and after that, 11:20. I just did not want to wait two more hours. So, I said goodbye to everyone and ran back to Penn Station, lugging my laptop, and made it back in exactly 17 minutes.
Anyway, thanks for making Podcamp NYC an excellent time and I look forward to hanging out with the same people at more podcaster events.
For podcasters wishing to promote each other, we have developed a very simple program called the RssAPI. This is an extremely simple API that comes with only one mandatory setting and one optional setting. It will help you trade podcasts with other podcasters without any manual updating. Using this program, as soon as you put up a new show, it will automatically show up on the other web site without any HTML coding. The HTML is a simple iframe tag. The only requirement for you, the podcaster, is that you need to have entered a valid RSS feed address into your PodcasterWhosWho.com account. You can obtain your RssAPI address from your podcasterwhoswho.com podcaster directory page
To use the RSS API, simply go to your podcaster directory page on PodcasterWhosWho.com and copy the HTML and send it to as many web site owners as you wish to paste it onto their web sites. The mandatory setting (the podcaster’s Who’s Who username) is already included in your link.
Here’s what it looks like:

The optional setting is called ItemCount and controls how many podcasts show up for a particular podcaster. You can set this to any number you like. For example, if you set it to 3, only 3 podcasts will show up under that podcaster on your web site.
Podcasters will be able to include their enclosures on the Podcaster Who’s Who community RSS feed. What’s cool about this is that the RSS feed, usually of one podcast each, will include about 5 to 10 and will change every few weeks.
Podcasters who like to particpiate will be able to log in and add their enclosures on the fly. We are now developing this now and I am excited to release it in April.
